Boys & Girls Clubs
For more than 160 years, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) have made a real difference, enabling young people to enjoy healthy and productive lives.
Headquartered in Atlanta, the BGCA annually serves 3.3 million young people through membership and outreach at 5,400 Clubs nationwide. The mission of the BGCA is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens; and on a typical day, 414,000 kids and teens enter the doors of a Club
In 2016, Seidman was commissioned to estimate the economic and social impact of 13 Clubs in Phoenix and the West Valley. Drawing from primary and secondary survey research, along with operational data supplied by the Clubs’ local head office, Seidman estimated that for every $1 invested in its 13 clubs in FY2014-2025, $18.22 in positive benefits was generated in the local community.
Since that time, the number of clubs run by Boys and Girls Clubs of the Valley has grown significantly.
In 2021, Seidman was recommissioned to estimate the economic and social impact of 22 clubs throughout the Valley. Seidman estimated that for every $1 invested in a local Club in FY2020-2021, $15.60 in positive benefits was generated in the local community.
In 2024, Seidman was recommissioned once more to estimate the economic and social impact of 30 Clubs and the local Program Services Center. Seidman estimated that for every $1 invested in a local Club in FY2024-2025, $14.79 in positive benefits was generated in the local community.
This is based on a quantification and monetization of the following benefits for Club members, their parents/caregivers, and the wider community as a whole:
- Improved rates of high school graduation;
- Reduced levels of teenage pregnancy and motherhood;
- Reduced levels of underage drinking;
- A lower propensity to smoke/consume tobacco;
- Reduced levels of marijuana addiction;
- Juvenile crime savings;
- Reduced levels of food insecurity;
- Improved rates of physical activity;
- An enhanced opportunity for parents to continue working; and
- The total economic impact of BGCAZ operations for the Maricopa County economy.
